Joint Gain & Share program activity with the Lomonosov MGU Graduate School of Translation: Project development history
2005. In the year of the 250th anniversary of the founding of Lomonosov MGU, the Graduate School of Translation conducted its first student enrollment.
March, 2006. Celebration of the first anniversary of the Graduate School of Translation, with Neotech representatives invited as honored guests.
March – April, 2006. Bilateral negotiations for the purpose of signing a special document establishing Neotech’s intention to participate in the preparation of future translation field specialists in the spirit of and in accordance with contemporary translation market tendencies. The administration of the Graduate School of Translation expressed their wish to enlist Neotech in implementing the educational process, as well as by way of a consultant and expert in all questions related to current market requirements of young specialists.
September, 2006. Holding of a special contest for full-time students of the school for the purpose of testing their level of expertise. During the contest a meeting with Neotech specialists was held, at which the latter described the contemporary translation market in Russia. Upon completion of the contest, test results and an estimate of the degree of proficiency of each contestant were submitted to the administrative arm of the school. The winners were awarded monetary prizes and gifts. Two students received an invitation to participate in the company’s internal trainings and, subsequently, to perform work for the company (in small volumes).
April, 2007. Conduction of a special contest for students of the Graduate School of Translation enrolled in the additional qualification program, “The Translator in Professional Communication”. Upon evaluation of their work, Neotech specialists unanimously acknowledged that students of the school could go on to occupy estimable positions in the translation field, working as translators, editors, and managers. The results of the contest and joint efforts for the first year of the Gain & Share program were established at a special meeting of two of its participants. Also examined was a preliminary plan for events of the next academic year.
August, 2007. Plan approved for mutual steps and measures for the 2007-08 academic year:
- For the purpose of professional orientation of students, individual startup lectures with the participation of Neotech staff associates and experts involved in the Gain & Share program.
- Continued work for students in testing their professional expertise and skills by means of special contests, in particular for students in additional qualification programs.
- increased focus on professional awareness, for which a stand of business news, current articles, and translation materials will be set up in the administrative arm of the school.
- Additionally, the parties have made a decision to involve students in “live” translation work, refining existing knowledge in practice.
September, 2007. “The Interpreter: Introduction to the profession” was a lecture given by Pavel Palazhchenko, a leading specialist in the field of consecutive and simultaneous interpretation and the personal aid and translator of M. Gorbachev. The lecture was a gift of sorts from Neotech to its pupils – the school’s students – on International Translation Day.
