Formatting and Layout

Translation of technical documentation implies not only translating the text of the material supplied, but also completely preserving the documents’ appearance, as well as, when necessary, preserving or altering the files’ electronic format, i.e., what is commonly called formatting and/or layout.  Our company handles the following types of documents:

  • Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio);
  • CAD program designs (AutoCAD, Bentley Microstation);
  • XML, HTML, and reference and “Help” system files;
  • the major contemporary professional drafting programs (Adobe InDesign, Adobe Framemaker, QuarkXPress, CorelDraw) and their graphics files (TIF, EPS, etc.);
  • files created in animation programs (Flash, etc.), including by way of components of files of other formats, such as objects in presentations.

The layout department deals with issues related to translation and subsequent formatting/layout in instances when the customer only has the file in hard copy or in an un-editable format such as PDF.  Even in these cases the customer will receive a set of documents formatted just like the original; moreover, their own wishes regarding the documents' electronic format will be taken into consideration.

The original file submitted to Neotech for translation may contain its own unique navigation elements, or the customer may request that these be created “from scratch”.  The translated document is thereby obliged to conform to our customer's wishes.

Does the customer need the original files to be updated to contain the text in both the original and target languages?  They will receive a dual-language document, created in accordance with the preformed requirements for the given document.

The customer needs no translation, only layout?  Neotech will provide this “solitary” service.
